The 2013-2015 CX-5s have a very bare bones infotainment system while the 2016 and up get Mazda Connect, which I can assume is what is being talked about as the "dial systems by the shifter". Mine is adequate right now, however it takes nearly a minute or two to connect anything to Bluetooth if I want to stream music.
