Thanks for all your replies so far. Looks like i can expect a reasonable life span from the 1.3 if treated right. My Merc diesel was at nearly 300k when i sold it and the guy is still driving it around now. looks a bit rusty and i noticed some exhaust smoke but at least it was still moving As mentioned the 1.3 needs to rev higher and is more complex.
